News
5.5.2013: 9:50 pm on a Sunday evening. Happy Cinco De Mayo everyone, if you celebrate it.
I come to you with a few ideas and pieces of news that I wish to share.
He not only speaks his mind on his own experiences, but enlightens the audience (and now you) the meaning of art, the meaning behind the human existence. I happen to agree with what he says, and its pretty interesting how a man with so much experience, and so much success can still see things so objectively. He sees issues that need to be dealt with, the evils and obstacles in the film industry, yet he appears to be optimistic about it all in the end.
I wrestle with the idea as well, in this arena, but also in other areas of my life. Its all the same. There will always be hangups, and mental dissonance, but it is your vision, your desire that will take you through it all. Now, in the end, if you are jaded about what you once loved, this can be a creative death sentence... proceed with caution, as they say.
Other news - hmm. The print ad I was in was spotted in Sports Illustrated (along with food magazines and others). Now, let me be clear. I am NOT in Sports Illustrated. I am not an athlete. I am in a print ad for a corporation that decided and paid to have that image in whatever mediums they chose. I am flattered that people think I had anything to do that.
I will be doing another ad this week, which should be fun. Its for a hospital. I will be dressed up as a mad scientist concocting potions and lotions, creating monsters in a murky basement. Just kidding. I am not sure of my character just yet, but I will certainly bring up my idea. Would you believe I thought of all that myself? I impress myself sometimes.
One last thing before I go- Fatal Call will be released by redbox in late July / early August. Kevin Sorbo (Hercules) and I have... um... an altercation. Do I take him down by drinking a gallon of steroids? Or do we settle things with a friendly yet competitive arm wrestling match, laugh, and become friends afterwards? You'll have to watch and find out like the rest of us!
4.28:2013: Its 12:14 am, and I am addicted to making as many changes as possible apparently. I have come to two conclusions after this overhaul: 1. I should work at Godaddy's customer support and help people who have issues with website development, because the personnel there need more training, 2. Maintaining a website is so much work!
As for all the links and hyperlink-code goodness in this news blog - alot of them will be not working. I tried fixing some, but I don't have the time to go code everything again. So, if you really want to see something I talked about in the past - just ask. Most likely my projects will be on this site, or on www.mentalnotion.com
4.27.2013: Woah! Major changes to this site! Too many to mention, and too insignificant for you to care. Let's just say it involves a whole TON of coding, edits, and the like. Your experience on this site is now going to be... ah, what's the word? Sublime. Yes. Impressed? Mckayla sure isn't! She is now jimmychungtalent.com's mascot, and boy is she a tough critic. Nothing I do impresses her!
4.20.2013: Happy April - boy was it a mess this week! Crazy weather, national tragedies, and of course chaos ensuing on a micro-molecular level as well (can't forget about our germie friends we can't see!).
Did a hand modeling audition this past week - that was a first for me. I think I did a great job, who knew my hands have more personality than the rest of me? I mean, the photog was asking for happy, sad, in fact all the emotions of the rainbow, and my little digits were taking all the requests! I'm proud of my hands, didn't show a hint of nerves. Maybe its because of the performing experience I have with my hands in regards to guitar and magic. They laugh in the face of fear. Seriously, they laugh. Do your hands laugh? Maybe I'm crazy.
I was spotted for an Alexian Brothers Hospital Commercial which will be posted in the actor section of this website. If you pick up the "Food & Wine" magazine this month - you'll spot me there too for a print ad regarding bank identity theft. That spot will be made into a national commercial soon, so be on the lookout for that. Or not. Do whatever you want. Oh, look what you did, you made me cry all over my keyboard!
Here is a video made for my friend Lupe Sanchez who created his own show and has successful performed it close to four thousand times. I have watched it three thousand of those times. I really enjoyed it, and felt compelled to do this interview project with him for three reasons. One, to document Lupe's growth and to give him a tangible gift that he can enjoy years from now (I am of course awaiting a large payment of $65,000 in return). Two, to give a visual thank you to everyone who has supported him. Three, to continue to stretch my production skills and once again do the best I can in this field.

The final Chicago Transit Minorities Show was last night, and another goal was reached. I personally was not part of the show, but I think I served my purpose by helping out here and there.
What else? Oh yes. My will was tested this week, and I learned a lot. Its time now to once again, rev it up and get what I want. I want more success. I want to be fulfilled, and to know that I gave it my best when I'm on my deathbed. Here is the problem, I will never be at my best, the potential is unknown and infinite. That's a good thing actually. I need to keep pushing. I will help people in my real estate business, and I will continue to practice in the arts discipline whether it be writing, sleight of hand, or performing. I won't stop. I might slow down, treading water and gasping for breath, but I don't sink. I don't lay down and die. I swim by cutting through water and sludge. I get up and fight when the news tells me there's no hope. That's what champs do.
4.5.2013: Love and Hip Hop is the worst show. And by worst show, I mean the best show.
4.2.2013: My dad got me Steve Jobs' biography written by Walter Isaacson. I read and listen to success stories / autobiographies daily, but I must admit, i've never read this book. It's huge. The moment I got it, I went looking for some pictures. C'mon Walter! This was an expensive book I'm sure to make, but throw a few more in there! I'm a visual guy after all.
I've read interviews and watched several autobiographical clips on Jobs, he's a fascinating guy bent on perfection and innovation. Some say, to a fault. No one who is over the top successful is balanced. They are screwed up in the head in several ways. But look at what he was able to accomplish! Such amazing things. He revolutionized the world. Even that would be an understatement.
I bought myself a TIME magazine the other day, a special issue centralizing on Thomas Edison's life (nice pictures inside!). The guy who made Steve Jobs possible, if you ask me. I don't know much on Edison either. I just know every time I read about millionaires - his name comes up. Each and every time. Could the universe be trying to tell me something?
"I have not failed. I found 10,000 ways that won't work."
- Edison in regards to his "failures" when creating the light bulb
How many times have you heard that things usually work on the LAST attempt? its because things don't work the first few times, or in Edison's case 10,000 times. Do you have that stamina, the persistence to bust down those walls to get what you want? That's my goal. That's my goal when I write terrible sketches and stand up, when I practice a new magic move and screw up live, and when my fingers don't move on a guitar. Its my goal to never give up when I'm building my real estate career. Its my vision to have the ultimate belief in myself that paying my dues will be worth it. I have been laying off the shows, the acting, and everything else to pave my way for financial freedom in real estate. THEN I will PRODUCE my own films, organize huge music/comedy festivals on my terms, rather than just being the actor/musician performing- making others rich. Not that is wrong for others, but I have bigger aspirations. I HAVE to.
3.21.2013: What it is, jive turkeys?
March is almost over. Had another eventful month, and I am very thankful for all that has happened. Certainly had some hardships with the entertainment business, but things are paying off. I had a commercial shoot yesterday that lasted all of 30 minutes. It was fun, met some nice people and went back to work. And by work, I meant sleep since it happened so early in the morning. I only wish the shoot was a few hours later in the day so that I could have stopped by Chick-Fil-A on the way back. Fried chicken is the best thing ever. Bad fried chicken sucks. You can take that to the bank and cash it!
On a side note: Failures and mistakes are part of life. I will face them head on, and not be afraid! I have gotten this far, and have had some amazing opportunities. Its time to refresh and stretch onward! Let's do it!
3.14.2013: March? My goodness gracious. Snow will soon be a distant memory. At least until it is... not a distant memory anymore. I am not poetic.
So here is the link for Chicago Transit Minorities, the best comedy troupe around:
facebook.com/ChicagoTransitMinorities
Our media team (Janet & myself) work on photos and videos for this troupe. Our involvement in this group is to help make sure we portray the best angles we can. We want professional media to reflect the the talent in this group. We take pictures, film, direct and edit it all. We are always learning and honing our craft.
Here are the vids so far:
"Role Call"
"Let's Go For A Ride"
3.3.2013: Greetings surfers of the web. How are the waves today? Full of lackluster Facebook news, and flashing images? Good.
Nothing much to report here, just chugging along like the little engine that could on steroids. Not that I recommend steroids. I suppose if you were a mechanical engine, that would ok, because, what would I care? It was a metaphor, so relax.
2.9.2013: Lots of things to report. First Chicago Transit Minorities is attacking like there's no tomorrow. www.facebook.com/ChicagoTransitMinorities and www.twitter.com/ctmComedy is where you can find us. Two films have been made that took much hard work - which will be posted here soon.
These past two weeks got back my work from a Chevy commercial, a voiceover cartoon job, and a hearing aid commercial. Some will be posted in the acting section. Enjoy.
Did a lot of jobs this past week - and it has run me ragged. Time to keep going!
2.3.2013: I will do it!
1.21.2013: It's late. I can't sleep right now. I need to write.
I have updated the bottom portion of this website a little. I have some big developments in the works such as more feature films. One is putting in all the final decisions regarding crew and investors. Once that is complete, we get filmin'. Should be a rush. I play a detective cop in this one. Lots of big players in this film, should be fun.
Also, completed a shoot for 5/3rd bank this past week. Very thankful for the opportunity. I hope they are happy with what they got. Pretty soon you might see my mug for them, Meijer and a whole bunch of others. And if you don't, just consider yourself lucky. Alrighty. I'm through talking. Please go do something productive. Back to my Tortino's Pizza Rolls.
1.1.2013: Happy new year and all that jazz. Time to work in anticipation of new amazing opportunities.
Here is a new review of "Year of the Ox" by Rob Sepulveda:
"The Mi Sing, a well-established criminal organization of Chicago’s Chinatown district, is approaching the new year with promising new ventures. However, an uneasy truce with a rival outfit is tested as people go missing, and when the Mi Sing’s White Fan investigates the sudden disappearance of an ally, he discovers an entirely new enemy.
THE YEAR OF THE OX was definitely something of a unique view. After viewing this short film, I was left both somewhat frustrated but also wanting more. The frustration came from the lack of build up and background of the main character from this movie, White Fan, but the ending and over all tone had me wanting to see more of what was going on and whats going to happen next. The ending left off with a “To Be Continued…” screen and I will be following it to see what happens next. Year of the Ox could end up being Year of the Cult Classic."
12.27.2012: Check out this amazing quote. I heard it during a "Ted Talk" which I watch about every week to jog my brain. This one was by none other than David Blaine. Think what you want about him, but his origins in magic came from a pure place which has taken him on journeys I only dream of. Anyway, here are his pearls of wisdom:
"As a magician I try to show things to people that seem impossible. And I think magic whether I'm holding my breath or shuffling a deck of cards is pretty simple. It's practice, it's training and experimenting while pushing through the pain to be the best that I can be."
How amazing. Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge fan of quotes. You can learn great things from big time leaders by reading their thoughts that they utter. If you want to be the best - you have to learn from the best!
12.21.2012: "Year of the Ox" has found its way in Reel Chicago this week. Take a peek here for the article. In it, director Rob Sepulveda explains his inspiration and thought process when creating the film. Side note to all who may be curious, Rob knows how to cater a party. For the wrap session - there was an excess of tamales there to feed a small nation. Also YOTO will be featured on Count Gore Vidal's New Blood Theater segment the first 2 weeks of the new year!
What else?
The acting gigs sure have slowed down now that it is holiday season, but perhaps this is a good thing. Life is like a giant bucket - sometimes things move out of the way to make room for other things. I know I will fill my life with positivity and good works. I know my business will grow from the hard and smart work I will pour into it. I can't wait to share the good news that my business is flourishing to the few who have supported me from day one. I can't wait to come back to music and create.
For now, my creative endeavors include sleight of hand and writing. I plan on hitting the comedy circuit yet again to do more stand up frequently. I have additional ideas I want to try. A more honest approach, if you will. The majority of the writing I am working on now is for another comedy troupe. You will hear more about that since we are opening up for Pimprov in February thanks to our director Jonald Reyes.
That's all out of me right now. This week was tough due to a terrible cold/flu that I am trying to beat to submission. Its almost out of my system. The good news is, I worked despite of it. I was out in the field being blown around by fierce winds and freezing rain. I'm still alive, and I ain't stopping. As I always say: New years is for LOSERS. Start every day anew!
12.10.2012: Its December and there isn't any snow. Is the world coming to an end? Is watching all these episodes of "Doomsday Preppers" finally poisoning my mind? Possibly. A trip to the military / survival store is in order for this week so that should further distort my perceptions of reality.
Have a commercial shoot with a group of filmmakers tomorrow which should be fun. Anyone who has ever done a gig should know how hard all the people behind the scenes work. They are the first to arrive, last to leave, and make sure everything to the smallest detail is in perfect working order. Like a well oiled, sexy machine. That made perfect sense. I think watching "Anchorman" last night at 4 in the morning certainly made things very tough on my brain.
A couple more things coming up - but more importantly, I have to keep up on everything and not get overwhelmed with daily life. One procrastination snowballs into another, and yet into another. Pretty soon, the entire week has gone, possibly eaten up by fear. I won't let that happen this week - and will push forward. Oh, also the "Sweet Leaf" trailer has come out - here it is, and it will be posted elsewhere in this site for your enjoyment. Click here!
11.15.2012: Hello hello everyone! Let's do this thang. A whole slew of news has been posted below. "Year of the Ox" has been premiered at the Portage theater, and "Fatal Call" has been premiered at another St. Louis Film Festival a few days ago. I couldn't make it to either sadly. I hear they both went really well. "Sweet Leaf" is still filming, and that will be in the editing room soon enough, although my part has been completed for some time now. Man, was that intense! Today, shot an ad for Phillips and it went well. Funny enough, I was just at this same set for my newphew's birth the other day. It's not so much a set as it is a full blown hospital.
The magic is going well, people ask if I still perform - and the answer is "sometimes." I perform for certain gigs by word of mouth because I don't actively advertise my sorcerer services like I used to. Don't worry, I still practice an insane amount that would make most people end up crosseyed. That's what it takes to stay sharp. That's what it takes to increase ability, and keep up on the ol' discipline. In addition to that, I spend a lot of time writing these days. And more importantly, rewriting. I'm taking pride in my writing, and I know it will show. I know it will benefit other areas of my life as well.
I have started reading another book called the "Realionaire." I think that's how it spelled. Its not a real word, but its a great concept of rags to riches. I've read countless books just like this, and listened to hundreds of hours of seminars/tapes/cds of similar stories as well. Interesting stuff. I'll keep reading it, because lord knows, I need the motivation to keep going. Giving up and blaming others for your "non doing" is not the way. I've tried that, although not often. Take responsibility. Just do it. Now having said that, instead of going to the gym, the mattress next to me is looking mighty soft... Maybe.. Just a few minutes... zzzz.
11.5.2012: My part is over in the Sweet Leaf saga. I filmed over a period of 3 nights this weekend, and it was a hell of a blood soaking rush. It was quite the ride, working with the best professionals in town. All that preparation and time has finally paid off. Thank you Sweet Leaf cast and crew!
11.2.2012: Well, the time has finally come to update the three of you who read this on what is going on with the creative stuff. Here goes:
This weekend begins another huge journey in creating a feature film. This one is by film guru Julian Grant who produced Robocop the TV series, and hundreds of films. He holds conferences, and even teaches at Colombia. Lets just say he's knowledgeable and a little bit crazy. I swear he doesn't get any sleep, and is a genius. I'm lucky to be working with the cast and crew. I must say, I have been very fortunate to have worked with the people I have because things always turn out alright in the end. Sure things don't always go smoothly, but that's life. All I ask is that people have respect for one another, and pray for the best. This particular production entitled Sweet Leaf (yes the same name as the Black Sabbath song) is just that; its filled with good energy, and positive people. Even though the subject matter isn't so much so. Maybe there are a bunch of morals stuffed in the film if you look hard enough, or maybe it really is just about sex, drugs, and blood. I play Chan, and I get pretty messed up in the film. I get "offed" in other films I have done as well, so this shouldn't be a problem. I'm fortunate to have a significant role in this film, and I hope to do it justice. My role alone will be filming for the next three cold nights. So wish me luck.
Also, I have been writing alot for a new show - so I hope to present some great sketches to you very soon. Keep you posted on that.
Alright - gotta go make my life happen - talk to you soon. By you, I mean.. me.
10.30.2012: Updated that silly mosaic picture so its not so big. It was taking too long to load, so I shrunk the quality a bit. Your internet thanks me.
10.24.2012: This past weekend was alot of fun. Alot of work, and it paid off. We had the Parts Per Million reunion at Ace's bar in Chicago after hours of rehearsal of trying to relearn the songs to prepare for that one. If you came out to it, my biggest thank you for supporting live bands and not that phony "American Fame" shows that you see on television. If you were at home, not at our show (watching those shows) you... have some thinking to do.
On that note...
Claim you are a singer? When was your last show? Claim you are a professional actor? What films have you done? Claim you are comedian? What have you written or last performed? Notice, I didn't ask what big name movies, or acclaimed pieces have you done. I simply asked... if anything.. what have you really sought after and accomplished?
If you aren't out there in the trenches - guess what. You AREN'T legit. SORRY. But its the truth. You don't have the foundation, and you WILL NOT LAST. How could you? The people before you have been through hell and back pursuing their passion, and you think you can just skate by on these ridiculous "talent" shows?
You have to be scorned, exploited, ripped off, abused in this industry. If you haven't you don't have your stripes. You don't have character. Looking for the "next big gig," yet you refuse to take on non-paying gigs? Looking for a manager, but refuse to invest in yourself? How many hours a week do you dedicate for your specific disciplines? Do you realize there are people out there who are better than you because they work at it, and not just talk about it?
Is this just about being "better" than someone else? No. That's not what I mean. I respect performers who aren't "good" to the common standards because they're out there, in the real world, in front of 4 drunkards trying their new material (while shaking at the knees). Its not easy. I respect the singer who is just starting to learn the piano or guitar and going off key rather than ANY singer on the CRAP FACTOR. Hey guys, its called KAREOKE. Good grief. What good is talent when you just flush it down the toilet? Put some work into it, and get some guts to hit the pavement. Or, just get the hell out of the way.
10.9.2012: Lots of things coming up. Be sure to attend Mental Notion's big show later this month. I'll be back to talk about more stuff.. It'll be music to your ears. It'll feel like warm honey enveloping your auditory senses to the absolute maximum of all limits.
10.3.2012: This past month was very tough to get through. But I must say, I made it. I was so incredibly busy and running ragged... burning the dynamite stick at both ends... as they say. Do they say that? Who is "they?" Back on track please. I had the best italian food last night.
Imagine a Rose was an exhausting shoot - but it went well. The crew was awesome - so dedicated. Other projects include shoots, films, commercials and auditions. I even got an awesome review from a production that I got booked for in wisconsin. (can be seen on the actor page) I'm not going to get into all of that, because frankly, I can see you about to hit the browser button looking for something else to waste your time.
Look, I took time out of MY day to write this drivel so the least YOU could do is PRETEND that its stellar writing. OK? NO? fine. Bottom line: Keep working, keep trying. Don't quit- and if you need help, ask. Not me though. Ok, me.
9.19.2012: Keep it going! Running ragged, but its going to pay off. Peace, y'all.
9.13.2012: Time passes so quickly. Here are the things that are happening:
So there have been some kickstartish campaigns to fund the projects I will be working on in the upcoming weeks/months. Check them below:
"Imagine A Rose" is a short film by Jasmine Allen based on a story about a man who lost touch with his inner child... who happens to be an insightful little girl. Obviously there's more to it than that, but she's a riot in real life. Click here to learn more.
"Sweet Leaf" is a feature about blood, guns, swearing, and deception. Its written and directed by Juilian Grant is a brilliant/crazy mind. The depths of his mind go far deeper than I ever thought, and they are poured into this script. The cast and crew are quite amazing. Click here to learn more.
Also, I saw "Yellowstone: The Musical" directed yet again by my man Jonald Reyes. No, this man doesn't sleep. Ever. One conversation with him and you will instantly feel terrible about wasting your life. Back on track though. I for one am not a huge musical buff by any means... But I honestly LOVED this show! It was fun, simple, hilarious, and fantastic acting/direction. The cast seemed to have known each other for more than a few years- a true testament to how much they worked on their chemistry in such a short amount of time. Go to the newly designed www.MentalNotion.com for more information and buy tickets to the show! Pictures and press (positive reviews!) can be found on that site as well as the JC Photography link above.
Lots of things happening in the world of arts for me. Although I must be honest with.. you, and maybe the 2 other people who have ever seen this site. I am having a hard time. I vow, right now (actually, a few hours ago) to get over it, and move on. I promise myself to find solutions, to not make excuses and work smarter. If I want to be the king in the arts as well as in real estate - I gotta earn it. I am willing to continue to work, as I am well known to have paid my dues. I am not, nor will I ever be someone with entitlement issues, or think my rewards will come without me putting skin in the game. I don't quit. Ever. You will see me face down in a puddle of wet gravel from pure exhaustion on the brink of death before I give up. Yes, hurdles will continue to get in my way (and for some reason, very suddenly). I will get knocked on my ass. Its going to take more than that to make me say "uncle." I'm going after it. My new moment- it starts again. NOW. or... maybe tomorrow. Just kidding. :)
8.29.2012: New events have been added below. Year of the Ox - the short film will be shown at Portage Theater at some point. Great job to cast and crew. I'm not sure what else there is to report - I'm sure I'll think of it the moment I get up from this chair. Till next time!
8.24.2012: Tired.
8.14.2012: Finished a print shoot today. I've played the scientist role so many times I might as well go be one.
Let's see. What updates do I have for all you folks? I recently have been practicing a new 4 of a kind effect that I am really digging. Its very challenging. I generally enjoy challenging sleight of hand. I'm not so sure why. I tend to gravitate towards a challenge, but when it actually requires time and patience - I'll complain that I didn't grasp it fast enough. Goes to show you, we think we know what we want. Meh.
Steve Byrne has a new sitcom called "Sullivan & Son." Check it out if you haven't already. He was nice enough to help me out in my stand up career so I at least owe him that. I once told him after his show "if you ever need anything, please let me know." I think he almost broke out laughing. Still, I meant every word.
A few more feature films are on the horizon, as are some other projects. I'll keep you all posted.
7.30.2012: Watched Brian Tracy speak about the traits of self made millionaires tonight. I must have watched him speak dozens of times and plenty more of other speakers. Its funny how often I forget! Laziness takes over. Fear takes over. Excuses sink in.
I wonder what my favorite cereal is? Do I have a favorite cereal? I wonder if I can make my own cereal and market it. Hell, I saw a cereal that was tiny little oreos. Oh boy, America is in trouble. Maybe I'll make bacon cereal. That'll be a big hit. I'll charge $30 bucks a bag because it'll be boutique and hand made. I'll make bacon - o's.
DON'T TAKE MY IDEA. You heard it here first, folks.
7.17.2012: Won "Best Supporting Actor" for my role as "Simon" in Fatal Call. Film was screened with dozens of others at the St. Louis Cinema Festival. What wonderful news. Thank you to the incredible cast and crew that I had the pleasure of working with and learning from. These guys pushed me, and they were professionals from beginning to end. I'm happy to still be working with them to this day on a variety of other projects.
7.9.2012: Good time filming yesterday. Stand up gig tomorrow thanks to my good man Jonald Reyes.
Came up with two new sleight of hand effects in the past few weeks that I am quite proud of. One of them is changing one sugar packet into another. I was inspired by this when having dinner with Janet last night (side note: contemplating having a food blog where I can complain about the food we pay for). I looked to the right and saw two different colored sugar packets. I asked Janet to think of a way to change one into the other. She was goofing around - but the first way she did it I was really shocked at how nice the change looked. That proves two things - great ideas can come from anywhere / anyone, and even I can still be surprised by other people's takes on a magical effect. Her unintentional, perfect timing allowed one sugar packet to have a retention of vision as it changed beautifully into another color. The mechanical subtleties were wonderful as well. I love that feeling of discovering magic in someone else's hands in unexpected places.
As soon as I saw it I was instantly thinking of ways to improve it (of course that's when Janet's eyes began to roll almost out of her sockets.) She tried to do it a second time - and unfortunately, she was trying too hard (is there really such a thing?). The timing was off, and the change went from a pink packet to... a pink packet. So needless to say, there wasn't any magic. What does that say about being natural and not being too analytical when creating? Something to think about! That's when I came up with a sugar packet color change very similar in some ways (in regards to the retention of vision) by using my hand as a "portal in space." At least, that's what it looks like to me.
I hope to continue to build more ideas upon one another and finally complete my book that I have been wanting to write. I am actually in the middle of writing 4. Here they are as they are finally revealed:
1. Journal: 54 - A comprehensive book/manual on all advanced sleight of hand that I have been honing over many years. Many of these effects I do not perform because of their confusing nature, but they are an excellent study into what makes strong magic, and running through them helps solidify sleight execution. This book is divided into two sections: effects and 4 of a kind effects. I have interpreted / written out everything with my own developments and changes in hopes to modernize / personalize them to my style.
2. My Own Effects (currently untitled) - I have been creating my own crappy tricks for years, but I like to think they are getting better as I continue to study the art of card sleight of hand. I have been documenting them, changing them, and hopefully improving them.
3. Audience management - This booklet will be a collection of essays on how to build relationships with strangers as you perform. I learned these lessons the hard way, in the trenches (from my band days to my present moments)
4. Last but not least, my last book will most likely be a book on certain aspects of real estate investing / life lessons. I cannot reveal this just yet - this will be a very personable book with lots of real world value... Let's just put it that way. Its the book I wish I had when I started. I might have to split these up into two books.
Thanks for reading this exceptionally long post.
7.2.2012: Booked a feature today called "Sweet Leaf." Its a fun feature written and directed by Julian Grant. I am very excited to be working with the team and hope to fit the role well. Also, the film "Elektable" just came out - and has been receiving a load of views. If you are into politics give it a chance. Look up "Elektable" on youtube. For your convenience it is posted under the "actor" section of this website. Adios for now - back to work!
6.25.2012: Keeping very busy with my business lately. Lots of auditions and booked a wonderful feature that will be filming in a bit. Very excited about that!
Also the "Masked Mustachio" also known as Jensen continues to bully me on facebook with ridiculous captions and embarrassing pictures. His time shall come.
Muahaha....
6.22.2012: Keep on movin'! Don't give up...
6.18.2012: Its Monday. The start of a new week. What does that mean for me? It means a chance to renew, a chance to reevaluate. An opportunity to start again with a new plan to be better, than the week before. To let go of mistakes, regret, and to embrace / attract the good things I have worked hard for up until this point.
Time to take a deep breath, count my blessings, and hit the ground running.
Q. What did the Dali Lama say when he walked into a pizza joint?
A. "Make me one with everything!"
Oh my goodness that's funny.
6.8.2012: Jensen "The Town Mischief" is terrorizing me by adding ridiculous captions to my headshots and spreading it all over the world wide web. If I didn't have a history with this human... I don't know what I would do. He does it with love, though. Don't worry, I'll plan something crafty to get him back with... :)
I'm worn out! Traveled all over the Mdwest, changing clothes in parking lots, eating in my car, and doing lots of projects... All in one day. Off to an audition, and another meeting. My body has got to keep up!
6.5.2012: More updates: More festival icons have been added, happy about that. Also, lots of other glitches, corrections, have been taken care of. Had to go more behind the scenes and fix code here and there. Server was slow today, but eventually fought through it. I'm digging the changes, makes things much easier to view on this site. Hopefully you feel the same way.
6.2.2012: My goodness this website takes so much work. Enjoy the updates.
5.24.2012: New Reel is up. This is even newer than new. Its so new, its new new.
On a serious note, I decided to take out the swearing in the reel. I debated putting in a "Bozo the Clown Honk" in place of the expletives, but I've got to remember a reel is about displaying experience, not making people laugh. That's a whole other reel. Extremely tired today, the drive to Grand Rapids was pretty long. Will get more sleep next time. Lesson learned.
5.22.2012: NEW REEL NEW REEL NEW REEL NEW REEL NEW REEL NEW REEL IS AVAILABLE!
Did I mention there was a new reel available with amazing new footage on the "actor" page?
NEW REEL!
5.12.2012: Filming all day went really well. We got really tired by the end of it, but I think it was worth it. We got to experiment with top notch equipment from Canon, the footage looks beautiful. I guess all that crap I say about money not buying quality.. is false. I can't wait to review the footage and start to piece things together. My editing experience and foresight will come into play now, and will test my patience. The raw footage is already well over 16 gigs, so I have no idea how I'm going to start this project (which will be a mental notion project by the way. For more info on that, go to my the acting or comedy section.)
It's almost 3 am, and I have realized I am not a workaholic... I just have a lot of things I have to do. And no, I'm not just talking about it, I am taking action because I have a lot of ground to cover. I made a big dent in my work tonight, and judging by my list of things for tomorrow, I'll be pretty preoccupied. My pants are TIGHT. I hate pants.
One more note, tonight was a great example why it is so important to be technologically savvy. Tonight I had to download, upload, cell phones, lap top, applications, design websites, record and render HD, and produce high quality voiceover... yes, all tonight. (not including special skills that need to be learned, such as characters, scripts, and picking stuff up on the fly in a very limited amount of time)
This is all just a day in the life of a creative mind who always has to find solutions and methods to challenges that come up. They might be auditions, marketing, my day job, whatever it may be. And there are times, many times where I feel bogged down, and there isn't a solution. Believe me, there is. I don't have the "stinkin' thinkin'" anymore. I won't go back. I get too much done this way. I find parking spots in the city so much easier now. And I even fix GPS units from all my experience of fixing circuit boards. Stinkin' thinkin' will get you nowhere. And it certainly will block your creative brain from being able to put together technology, which is so critical to stay competitive in any job market. You can take those words to the proverbial bank and cash it.
5.11.2012: Fatal Call acquired international distribution. Shots Fired the feature film will be premiered at portage theater in about 10 days. Stay tuned for more details, or do a search on the ol google. Audition went well today. Now off to make a film with my brother. Sweet!
Found a great video on Penn & Teller talking about how camera tricks isn't magic, and I wholeheartedly agree. I love the psychology of sleight of hand and cameras and technology is cheating it. Will post later.
BYE.
5.10.2012: Call Me On Tuesday has been renamed to FATAL CALL. Also, the film has been accepted to the CANNES Festival. Big news indeed. Hope you enjoy the website changes... all two of you who frequent this site.
5.3.2012: Double filet o' fish. That's what is on my mind. Anyway - this month started off with a bang. Lot of auditioning as usual - and taking 'em down one by one. Recently did some stand up as well - and tried some new material that seemed to go over well. I need to be more relaxed on stage - which will allow me to be more free. That's our natural enemy - our own brain.
Its 12 am, and its back to work. Talk to you guys soon.
4.8.2012: Do you have a second? Take a seat. Its story time.
It is now April, 2012. Does time fly? Yes, yes it does. Where does the time go? It slips through my hands like hamburger grease. It escapes my mind like a good idea. I wish I could hang on to it for just a little while longer, but if I could do that, I would most likely sleep through it. Napping is good.
The reason for this blog post is to update you and myself on everything that has been going on. Well, lets start with the obvious: Taco Flavored Eggrolls: It Takes Juan to Know Wong is officially over. The two month run was exhausting mentally and I'm glad its had its place in my life. I think the people who were involved had a great time. What is more important is that our friends and family had a rip roaring good laugh. What more can you ask for? My car is packed with props, chairs, etc that I need to unload. Going through all that stuff will remind me of the show of course. It was a great experience that had its ups and downs. Not everything was super smooth. What is these days? Its about how you handle it. I've learned alot and I'm excited for what I'm going to bring about in the future.
Here are the things I will be boosting up in my life:
1. Beefing up my real estate business like no other.
2. Doing more commercials, worldwide feature films.
3. Working with dependable, hardworking associates to make fun, high quality video sketches.
4. Writing and tightening up my stand up.
5. Keeping up my self proclaimed title of being the best sleight of hand artist in Chicago.
6. Finish my book on sleight of hand card magic.
7. Forming yet another crazy hair metal hard rock metallic insane rockabilly band
I will not stop. I will always be creative. It is my mindset - I am already successful. I conquered my dreams. I will not be afraid- I've come too far, I've worked too hard. I can do better and I will continue to prove to everyone that anything is possible.
2.28.2012: Hello all! It has been a while, no? Yes. I have been very preoccupied with work these days (real estate) and I must say things are going fine. Hiccups do come up along the way. For example, I had a crown placed back on my tooth today after it became dislodged from a blow pop. Dangerous suckers, they are. It's not so bad, but it does take time out of my day. Now its 2 am, and I am still practicing for my taco flavored eggrolls show this Friday, along with the magic I always have to keep sharp on. My material is so vast, that it takes so much work just to keep up with it. I desperately want to move to an adobe hut and do nothing but practice, expand, and routine more ideas. When I return, I'll be an even better artist. That excites me. One day, I'll do just that.
The It takes juan to know wong run has been going well. For those of you who don't know it is a comedy revue that our comedy troupe has produced from the ground up. It was a lot of hard work. It still is. Although I am learning to enjoy its moments, I want to explore writing more. I want to write more sketches, and figure out more stand up. I just want to become the artist, the intellectual writer I know I can be. I have alot of work to do, but sometimes, that's fun for me. Performing it is a whole other issue, and can sometimes make me get more anxious than anything else. One step at a time. I don't want to perform ALL the time. I do it to step out of my comfort zone, to discipline the mind. I'd rather be watching, usually. I'm getting sleepy, and I have to practice more. Talk to you guys soon. I'm getting loopy.
2.18.2012: Many improvements have been made to the site. Browse around and you'll see more examples of my work, which I feel still doesn't fully encapsulate what I do, or have done. It's a start, however. I hope you enjoy your stay. Off to work, then more rehearsal. A few more bookings are listed below.
2.17.2012: Crazy rehearsals for Taco Flavored Eggrolls these days. Our comedy troupe will finally be performing our all original comedy revue. Look us up on facebook, and see you at the shows. They will sell out. Got booked for a Mardi Gras show, looking forward to that.
2.9.2012: Tired today. Absolutely drained. Have a really busy weekend, followed by a hectic week up ahead. Cheers to a successful, productive week!
2.8.2012: Filmed the eSpring commercial today in Grand Rapids, MI. T'was fun, and worked on a lot of things on the drive. Listened to instructional cds, worked on the ol' voice and enjoyed the open road. Tomorrow I have an audition for a construction company commercial. I would love an entire weekend to be able to sit down and study more sleight of hand and continue to work on my book. I will have to make time.
2.7.2012: Military audition today. Traveling to Michigan for eSpring commercial shoot tomorrow. Strolling magic performance for a wedding this friday, the 10th of February. Filmed "Jack In The Box" short film last week with a pro team. In the middle of writing this update, it has occured to me that this "news" box has become the "upcoming events" box somehow. I've tried to backtrack and update the section below, if I am missing things, big deal. This section is mainly for my thoughts, if I happen to have any the day of writing. The upcoming events box is below. I guess my impulse is to write things coming up so I don't forget. Ok, see you next time when I have provoking thoughts... Its gonna happen, I'm tellin' ya!
Peace,
Jimbo.
1.20.2012: Happy New Year! Ok, a little late on that. C'mon, you weren't really waiting for me anyway. It was last year when I was doing a fun magic gig for a new years party. Man does time fly!

--I think that just about covers it. Other than me always trying to advance my magic, finish writing that damn book, and solving a freakin' Rubick's Cube (I'm NOT kidding. Its hard even with the instructions!). Thank you for your support. And if you don't, thanks anyway. :)
12.12.2011: Playing the doctor for a commercial shoot today. Let's do it!
12.6.2011: Sanford Brown Commercial shoot all day. Then Taco Flavored Eggroll practice.
12.5.2011: Its late. 1:36 am. Its been a hell of a weekend. Saturday, I filmed my part for "Shots Fired." Then rehearsed for a Xmas Sleight of Hand demonstration for later on that night. The show went well. I had incorporated music, demonstrations, and souvenirs. Laughter and inspiration was had by all. That's what its all about.
Afterwords, headed to see my good buds: A Friend Called Fire play at a bar in the northwest burbs. They rock, and are great guys. I used to play sets with these suave gentlemen when I was in Parts Per Million. I sure do miss touring in a rock band. Sigh.
Sunday - which was today, I had the honor again to do a set warming the audience for some Steve Byrne Lovin'. He's the nicest guy, and I'm extremely lucky. I could go on and on- kind of like how I would gush about David Schwimmer- or anyone else I've been lucky enough to work with.. But I won't bore you. My set was received well. I wasn't expecting anything less. Over the past few years, and this last year especially, I have performed countless times in all sorts of situations - for a variety of mediums. I am happy to report I have grown leaps and bounds in the art of magic, photography, stand up, sketch comedy writing & real estate. All of this has culminated to nights like tonight, where I see my progress has paid off... all the bombed nights, forgotten lines, and stage fright. Its all worth it.
12.2.2011: Had an audition Nov 28 for an insurance company- an industrial. Had another audition Nov 30th for another industrial in the city for a learning aid company. Booked the insurance company one, as well as a college commercial, along with a Walgreens advertisement.
I'll be shooting "Shot's Fired" this Saturday in the city for my role of Mr. Yomada - mobster. Nice. This feature will be very exciting - I can't wait for you guys to see it.
After the shoot, I'll have a magic show for a kids soccer team late Saturday night.
Got booked to do a fun charity event with Vince Acevedo - an established amazing comedian. That will be the 16th of December if you can make it out at Northeastern. Magic for charity!
TFE's Lupe Sanchez will be performing a new revamped version of Porque No Comes on Dec 28th. Check it out!
December 8th is a fun industry get together through my agent. Should be a grand holiday time.
11.22.2011: More Auditions. Booked Walgreens Advertisement. Doing a featured performance with Lupe Sanchez at the Nothin' Less Showcase in Chicago on Wednesday the 23rd of Nov. 24th is Turkey Day. 27th is a Taco flavored Eggrolls photoshoot to promote our new run that will be happening in February. Having a lot of meetings lately - and I'm about to get really busy soon. Gotta stay focused.
Booked another magic show a soccer team here in IL for Dec. 3rd.
11.16.2011: Auditions, taco flavored eggrolls practice. Magic gig went great this weekend, 900 person Hemophilia fundraiser. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
11.10.2011: Last weekend performed at the Immaculate Conception Church for a giant fundraiser doing some stand - a Mikey Oquendo show. This weekend will be doing walk around magic for the crowds at the Hemophilia convention. This will be at the Hyatt on Wacker / Michigan Avenue. Unfortunately this is a private event as far as I know. I will look into it however. Features are starting up, and here is the much anticipated link to see Call Me On Tuesday. Its a feature I shot with Jason London, Lochlyn Monro, Kevin Sorbo: http://vimeo.com/31672458
Taco Flavored Eggrolls - as you guys all know, we have been hard at work putting together a new revue. So stay tuned.
Ill be putting up a new reel soon, and that will be uploaded to CN, AA, etc soon.
11.1.2011: "WOAH. OK. EVERYONE, TWO STEPS BACK!" There was a whole lot of that this past weekend for the Halloween magic show I put on for about 80 kids and adults. It was a fun time, things got a little loud with excitement quickly. You can do the same routine for certain groups, but the way the group reacts will always be different, that's the fun after all.
I had the honor of working with The Looking Glass Theater last week for three whole days - workshopping a brilliant play with David Schwimmer at the helm. He's incredibly smart and awesome! I could go on and on - which I most likely will if you ask me for the details. I learned quite a bit.
Upcoming events include Mikey Oquendo's Extravaganza's, Taco Flavored Eggrolls events, Stand Up, Magic, Chicago Bulls, Feature Films, Commercials, Auditions, and everything in between! Lets do it!
*Also, new reviews are up! Ill put them here, as well as in the other sections.
"Jimmy is a excellent entertainer, he's hilarious! He was awesome at my show and people are still talking about his performance. I am looking forward to working with Jimmy again. He does a great job of connecting with the audience with his stage presence, which allows him to appeal to a diverse audience." - Tim Owens, Producer/Comedian
"Jimmy Chung is by far one of the best entertainers today. Jimmy captivated my audience with his magic and tickeled my audience with his comedy. I was very pleased with Jimmy's professionalism, his promptness, and his preparedness. I look forward to working with Jimmy in the near future and would definitely suggest his services to everyone I know."
Shavon Parker, President/Lead Coordinator of Timeless Events Inc.
10.24.2011: Timeless Events show went very well this week. Thank you to Shavon and the crew for having me. The live band was awesome, and the event was completely professional. It was nicer than most weddings I've been to! The set went well, and alot of rehearsal went into it. I hope people enjoyed it. I certainly enjoyed Rico, the famed Michael Jackson impersonator! He was amazing and a barrel of laughs. One more show is coming up at the end of the week. More shows, more talks of future groups and ideas coming together as well.
On a more serious note- since this a blog of mine.. after all. This week has been a little tough for reasons I won't be able to disclose. We all make mistakes, me more than anyone. I know that's what life is all about... but sometimes I wonder what I would trade to live a life that wouldn't have pain.. or bring pain to others... who would I even talk to.. to make that sort of deal?
10.18.2011: A new feature by writer Jay Davis entitled "Shots Fired" will be filming soon. I have the role of Mr.
Yomada, a gangster with a heart of gold... or something like that. I also will be performing for a formal fundraiser 10/22/2011 as well where I will be doing a magic set. Another magic set is also set for later this month before halloween. Taco Flavored Eggrolls practice is also going well, the sketches are all finished - and now its all about designing the best live sketch show out there.
What else, oh, big news in terms of stand up is coming this way! I can't talk about it just yet but its big big big! Here's to being positive! Cheers! (I don't drink so, I'll just pretend.)
10.9.2011: A brief update. More auditions coming up for some great features. Had meetings for features currently scheduled. Did a show with producer Tim Owens for his taping last night, and I did about 75% new material that I think people enjoyed. Cheers to more refinement, and constantly writing new ideas. Finally saw Contagion today. Good flick, I am fortunate to be a part of it. More films are coming out, so be on the look out for those.
Coming up on the 22nd - a huge fundraiser ball where I will be performing stage magic, and a halloween magic show as well. All while managing Taco Flavored Eggrolls' new show. Good luck everyone.
9.28.2011: Hello hello out there! This month has been busy beyond belief. The shoot in Saint Louis went well. Thanks everyone for the support! Also, I have been getting alot of interesting texts/emails/general communication regarding Contagion. I'm glad you guys are loving the film!
There have been loads of auditions lately, and I was cast to do a game show in a very prominent facility/studio today. The pilot will be shopped around, and I'll tell you this much, there are some fun, awesome people behind it. It was a thrill to be a contestant on the show, and I must say, I'm smarter than I thought. Not a bad way to finish out the day!
I've also been booking alot of shows in regards to comedy and magic - ranging from fundraiser banquets to nightclubs this month. I'll keep you posted on those. Taco Flavored Eggrolls is rolling like never before - with our weekly meetings and new shows in development.
Before I leave, let me remind you - to please drive slowly. I wasn't even going that fast on the way back from "Call Me On Tuesday" and I was ticketed. Had I just gone a LITTLE slower - I could have saved myself 230 dollars. Lesson learned. AGAIN. Please learn from my mistakes. Ahem, let me reword that: I don't make mistakes, I make experience, I learn, and then I move on. Onward to amazing things to come! Thank you to everyone who supports me, I won't let you guys down! You'll see.
9.12.2011: Watch "Contagion" today! I am in the scene with Kate Winslet of the Minnesota Facility. It was a very exciting time to work with such pros. Also, I am still near the Saint Louis area filming "Call Me On Tuesday." I'll be out here for a total of two weeks. Great crew and actors. I also met a cat the other day.
9.1.2011: Wow, this site is so glitchy. I type out an entire blog entry, and blammo- the whole thing shuts down on me because it decides to be difficult. Thanks go daddy! Arg.
Anyway- its been a big month for me - booked a huge feature called "Call Me On Tuesday" for a big supporting role of Simon. Its a dream... I still can't believe it, and it's going to be so much fun.
We film on location for about a week - but I'm sure the crew will be there longer. Its going to be a hell of a trip - and Ill be sure to report back soon!
8.9.2011: Hi guys! It's been almost a month - and everytime I think I should "slow down," the more my month gets crammed with appointments, auditions and gigs. So here's the run down:
• "Miss Lucky" by Thomas Mann was accepted into 2 more festivals making it a total of 4!
• Filmed "Ya Nabi" with Janet Lee, which made it extra fun. This song is by superstar Maher Zain - and will be world premiered on Ramadan.
• Auditioned for GI Joe 2, currently being filmed in LA.
• Auditioned for a Korean/American industrial.
• Auditioned for Midas.
• Booked a print gig that will be done this Saturday on the 13th of August.
• Taco Flavored Eggrolls will be at a networking event this Thursday for a meet n' greet, and possibly for improv.
• Taco Flavored Eggrolls will be practicing a few more times for a big show on Friday for a Filipino Organization, and this Sunday for a Mikey O production at Joe's on Weed Street. HUGE SHOW!
• Did a photoshoot for the excellent cast of Mental Notion's upcoming sketch show!
• Wingman - the big feature will be filming my part soon, I hear its going very well.
• Filmed, edited, directed TFE "Gettin' High." People dug it!
7.14.2011: Hello Hello! Jimmy Chung here with some much awaited news. Its been more than a month since my last update, and usually I am much better than that. My apologies! Well, lets get right down to it.
Since last month, I have worked on a new spanking music video for "True Joy" for Maher Zane. He's a really talented singer with a cheerful, positive message. Be on the look out for that. Also, the official trailer for "Contagion" came out, and the movie looks pretty nice. I don't need to say much more about that - since the cast is huge and they are all fantastic actors/actresses. I was lucky to be a part of it and meet the principals and learn so much.
I have an audition this week for Weber Grill. I plan on nailing it.
Mental Notion Society is also taking huge leaps by producing its own show! Jonald is directing, writing the whole shebang. I helped film and direct the audition. Jonald is currently losing much sleep putting this show on- so be sure to support it!
Also, just got news that a film I did with Director Thomas Mann was accepted in the Naperville Indie Film Festival, and the YoungCuts Film Festival!
Taco Flavored Eggrolls is of course flying by at lightning paced speeds... We made our first film and it turned out great. I produced, shot and edited the thing. It took alot of work, but it was worth it.
That's alot of news! Chew on that everyone! More photography, music, comedy is on the way!
6.10.2011: Woah! So much has happened, and not doing the updates has certainly weighed on my mind!
Taco Flavored Eggrolls is reaching new heights! We are so lucky to be working with Mikey O Comedy. Because of him we were able to put on a huge run of shows last month, but now we have a brand new show in the works for the fall! Till then, be on the look out for even more shows that we will be putting on throughout Illinois!
Since the last update, in terms of films, there are more developments. We had a huge event where hundreds gathered to witness the Studio 22 film premiere at Northwestern University. My goodness these people are amazing. The talent these guys have is scary. Ellen Barry's film "Life" was shown as well, and luckily got a lot of laughs from the audience. I was happy to be part of that production where I played a bowling alley boss.
I also finished up the last filming day of "A Normal Day" with Joshua Miller from a DePaul Masters Course. It went well, and we are happy to report the shots turned out beautifully! I'm excited for that.
This Saturday, we will be filming a huge dance scene at Grant Park to wrap up "Really?" This project is a mega indie effort - and an incredible comedy. I'll let you know when that is out.
Last Sunday (6.5.2011) was the table read for the entire cast of "Wingman." Its a comedy feature where I'm so fortunate to be cast by Chorizo Productions. The level of talent here is so amazing. Afterwards I got an elote.
That night, I headed over to Joe's on Weed St. to support Mikey O's comedy show where Abi Sanchez and Vince Acevedo performed. A good buddy of mine Jose was also there helping out so it was good to catch up with him and talk some comedy and his ventures with poetry. Mikey O came up to me and offered me stage time in front of a 400+ crowd. I was completely shocked. I went up there, and did the best I could. I heard the laughs and focused on the audience. It was an experience I'll never forget. What a great crowd.
Last night (6.9.2011) I was part of "Thursday Night Trickery" a production by Jim Santopadre of Serenity Lounge. You guys have to go to this show! Pat Flannagan, Tomas Medina, and Jim himself all put on such amazing shows. Dan Neilson was there showing his skills - this man has fast fingers. You wouldn't believe it... I didn't! I also got to meet some old friends like the Amazing Andrew. Glen Morphew, a personal favorite teacher of mine was also there, it was so amazing to see him. I left last night's gig totally inspired! All I want to do is practice...
During my segment last night, I had Joe Delulio come up and help me out where he fully entertained the crowd on his own. He is a funny funny man. Joe produces about 80 shows a month so get in touch with him if you want to see some serious comedy (how ironic).
This Sunday, Taco Flavored Eggrolls will be filming a short of our own through Mental Notion Productions. The sketches will be called "Whats Up? 1 & 2." Parts have been cast, and James Garner will be directing. We storyboarded the whole thing- and we are ready to go.
Also, signed on with another entertainment agency, and have a meeting with another big film/print/model agency in Chicago this coming week.
What to expect from me - more music, and more comedy. Let's do it!
5.24.2011: Even MORE updates? Yes please. Check around the site and have fun! As much fun as you can possibly have on a site, anyway. Instead of constantly typing little snippets about twitter, etc, I just made buttons spread throughout the site.
Also, a new feature film will begin rehearsals and table reads in a matter of a week. I was cast for this about a month ago, so I'm very excited to be working with such talented team members.
Finishing up important scenes for "A Normal Day" on Thursday. "Really?" will be finished in a week or two (one day), and the webseries "Reels" will be filming again this weekend. Northwestern's Studio 22 big premiere is coming up on June 4th where "Life" will be displayed. The night before, we have Taco Flavored Eggrolls sketch competition at Gorilla Tango.
Speaking of Taco Flavored Eggrolls - we had a huge meeting last night, hammering out details for future meetings and shows. Alot of stuff is in the works... HUGE things.
5.23.2011: Huge changes with the site. New shows coming. More comedy, music, and films being completed. I need a break! Add my facebook "fan" page by looking up "jimmychungtalent." My twitter is @jimofhearts. By the way, I hate the word "fan."
5.21.2011: Big changes with the site! I think you will enjoy the improvements!
5.19.2011: TFE meeting last night was great. Big things are happening with our troupe. Met great comedians at Mikey O's show. He's an awesome host. Finished the print job today. Whew. Two films this weekend.
5.14.2011: Nikki was awesome at the Slaughter game! Two films this week: Really & Normal Day. Print job this Thursday. Mikey O Comedy Picante show tomorrow to show support. My good man Jonald has a show going on too which I will be seeing soon as well. Music project is in the works, and more magic.
5.13.2011: The audition went well this week, its for a pretty big commercial. We'll see what happens. Commercial class went fine. Also, I just learned that there is only supposed to be ONE space after a period. Pretty shocking news, and this habit will be hard to break. // Also, magic gigs are on the way. I know I know... after I say I need to take a break, I can't seem to stop. I love magic too much.
Last night, I did a rant/comedy set with Lupe Sanchez who impressed everyone with his poetry. Very very cool! Jose did some too, along with some others at Ponce @ Night. Videos of those will be up soon. Next week I have a big film to do with a Red One Camera, and a print job. This saturday I will be celebrating my friends bdays by going to see the Slaughter perform. I hear its also where a reality tv show will be taping. We are going mainly to support Nikki since she will be MCeeing.
5.9.2011: Mikey O's production of Taco Flavored Eggrolls: Cinco De Mayo Weekend Extravaganza is completed! What a rush of a ride that was. Sold out shows, crazy crowds, and the performances of a lifetime. We grew tighter as a cast, and got people to smile- what more can you ask for? Thank you to Mikey O, and Jose, the coolest host around. Thank you to everyone who came out.
Our show had everything: comedy, music, hip hop, dance... Everything! Follow me on twitter: @jimofhearts Had an audition this morning for a commercial. Still waiting on a few responses otherwise, but that's why we keep moving. This month I have another graduate program film to complete. Should be a good time. Fingers are sore from "chip shuffling." Auditions make you learn all kinds of stuff.
4.29.2011: Did a set at capitol club yesterday with some very talented comedians. Thanks to Robert Kleinman. Very talented host. Got cast in a new feature which will hopefully have more of my friends in it. May brings forth another RED camera production, which I am looking forward to. New headshots look great, and my agents are excited about them. Commercial class is going well. Magic is going well, but music has slowed down. I don't like that too much, and I plan on changing that this week. This weekend we have a tech rehearsal or two for Taco Flavored Eggrolls. This will be a challenge. See you all at the shows. Oh, one more thing, a film I did with Director Ryan Nanni called "Dry" made it into the CINEYOUTH FESTIVAL! ROCK ON!
4.24.2011: Easter Sunday. Finished an overnight shoot in a wonderful little bowling alley in the city with Northwestern's Studio 22 Program. It was great working with such professional students! Thank you to the whole team and the fellow actors who make my job so enjoyable. Very much a learning experience to say the least. More news is on the way, so keep your ear low to the ground for that. Oh baby. Cinco De Mayo Weekend is here! Taco Flavored Eggrolls will be tearing it up! Look up Taco Flavored Eggrolls on facebook, as well as www.tacoflavoredeggrolls.com.
4.17.2011: Where is this month going? Its crazy how the days can fill up with projects. Anyway, finished up another Tribecca film yesterday. It was good fun. Got cast in another film that will be shot on RED cameras. This will be done in May. Had an audition for a feature this morning as well. Gotta keep busy. Yesterday's Project Vision show was a success in more ways than one. My friends came out, and I got to meet alot of people and make them laugh. What a feeling! They enjoyed some magic, sketch comedy, improv, stand up... goodness, the works. Kirsten and Lupe were the champs of the evening. Nikki was a busy lil' beaver running around making sure things were going without a hitch. We raised alot of money for the kids, and we made a difference with comedy! We had another TFE rehearsal and dinner tonight- its so much fun hanging out with these guys. Our Cinco De Mayo show is going to ROCK! Tomorrow night, I travel back to the city to finish up some sound for a project we filmed a month ago also shot on RED cameras.
4.15.2011: Woah! What happened? How did all these weeks fly by without a single update? I don't even know where to begin. Its been a deluge of auditions, opportunities, shows, rehearsals, and even a fever or two. The upcoming events section below is behind as well, I will update it right after this blog here. Some stuff I'm putting in there really doesn't belong in there, like film shoot dates, but who cares? Not all of them are in there, I can't recall everything.
About a month ago I finished a voice over project with David Neuburger, who is keeping me up to date on that. Its encouraging to know things are going smooth on his end. I did a spot for Rossi's Furniture which was good fun. "Reels" a big time webseries is also on the go with Jackson Quick at the wheel. He has a production and marketing team working together to make sure things run smoothly. All very nice guys! Jackson and I actually did a comedy set together after a busy weekend of shooting. He did a great job, and I'm super proud of him! Let's see.
What else? Steve Long of Mammoth Productions graciously allowed me to host a show this past week where we had such amazing talent such as Ryan Budds, Lewis Rhine, and even Dan "Flapjacks," and Joe Motisi. Hilarious people, and truly inspiring. After watching these guys, it makes me want to improve, or stop all together. Haha, its a compliment to them, and their ridiculous skills.
Loads of TFE practice sessions have been happening. We have a fundraiser show this Saturday for Project Vision- a non profit organization which helps kids. Can't get simpler than that. TFE is doing a full on show to help out, and also promote our huge CINCO DE MAYO WEEKEND with Mikey O Productions. Goodness! I'll be doing stand up and magic at Project Vision's event. You don't want to miss this!
I'm currently shooting a film with Northwestern students and will be shooting another this Saturday. The project "Paddy's Bar" has been pushed back to next month. A few more projects are in limbo I hope to nail, but time will tell. Also, a feature film I did which will remain nameless was completed- I wouldn't be on the lookout for me in that one though. ;) If you are, just don't blink. There will be others, haha. Oh, thanks to Geoff Crittenden for being a great director in the film "The Morning After."
3.24.2011: Finally able to sit down after another crazy week. Its only Thursday and I'm a bit worn. Did a bit for a feature film, and finished the animation production where I did the lead voiceover. Fun times, working with awesome professionals. Auditioned for a few print jobs and one massive film I can't talk about. I did the best I could, and I think the CD saw that I knew in my heart I was right for it. You just never know in this crazy biz. The only thing I can do is prepare, prepare, prepare, and smash my goals to pieces. I intend on doing it again for my stand up slot this Sunday. I don't take prisoners - I work hard. I'm here to accomplish things - period.
3.16.2011: I'm waking up in 4 hours to do this Hollywood Casino Booking. Crazy times! I hope to eat at the buffet.
3.14.2011: This weekend was a crazy weekend. Booked for a huge Hollywood Casino advertisement campaign for this upcoming week. Had Taco Flavored Eggrolls practice where we made another video and have worked on music. Also shot another short film with a great working team. Booked a film I auditioned for which will take place in April. Many more auditions happened - so I will just have to wait and see!
3.10.2011: Finished the shoot, and have several more booked. See you at the Ole Lounge this saturday at 8 pm. Booked a campaign for Hollywood Casino which will take place this coming week. I also am working with a very talented writer for a voice over animation project. Wow! So exciting. As if that wasn't enough, I have some projects I have auditioned for, or will audition for that are pretty high profile. Sometimes just going for it is a victory for me. Last night went on an audition with some of my classmates, including my acting coach. She's amazingly talented. Dillon is awesome too, be on the look out for this guy - he's getting up there, and he's only 20. Crazy! See you all soon.
3.6.2011: Shot all day for a DePaul Masters Film. Not easy stuff- and we still aren't finished. The crew is super professional, and I am so appreciative of their efforts to push me. Its a tough shoot, so I'm taking it pretty seriously, as I usually do. I don't want to let these guys down. Tomorrow, I go back to finish up some more shots and hopefully it will do the film justice. The work is all done by Red camera's the best in the biz. These things are monsters!
3.3.2011: Did a set at Pressure billiards of strictly stand up with no magic. Was a personal challenge- tried some new material never done before and I think there is much potential. Looking forward to the next set where I will set forth a goal of even more new material.
3.2.2011: Road tripped to Michigan- Grand Rapids to be exact. What a wonderful experience, and got to meet wonder agent reps. I am extremely grateful to not only work with them, but to get back safely.
2.26.2011: Saturday morning - film audition. Work until Lupe Sanchez's show where I open and intro. Sunday is Taco Flavored Eggrolls practice. Should be fun. Magic at the United Center went well. See you all soon! Gig schedule below.
2.21.2011: Hola! Two new gigs have been scheduled! March 3rd at the Pressure Billards & Cafe, 8:30pm (6318 N. Clark) as well as March 12th at Ole Lounge, 8pm (2812 N. Lincoln). Both are 18+ with $10 admission. Both begin at 8 pm. Thanks for all your support!
2.14.2011: Happy V-day! TFE practice went well. Loads of stuff in the works. Flyers for Cinco De Mayo Weekend are looking great. Got booked for more auditions, including one in Michigan for March. You'll find me doing stand up opening up for Lupe Sanchez (http://lupesanchezlive.blogspot.com), and some more gigs scattered about. Also, I am very excited to be working with some talented and driven directors and actors in a new project that is on the "hush-hush." More details to come. Also looking forward to playing a detective in a feature length film.
2.10.2011: Read this article about fellow Taco Flavored Eggrolls Cast Member/Founder Lupe Sanchez: HERE . Its all about him, and his show. You'll also find some of my photography published there. Nice! Good job lupe! Keep up the good work!
2.9.2011: Booked for some stand up in March, and plan to book more. Cast for a few films, and had a lot more auditions. Booked for the Bulls on Feb 24th. Currently writing more music and stand up. My acting teacher is the best teacher I've ever had.
2.3.2011: Wow! So busy. Had half a dozen auditions and happy to say they went well this past month. I have a lot of projects underway, not to mention the stuff I had going in the pipeline already. I'm excited to have worked with some established directors, and a few more in these upcoming months. See you guys tonight in Elgin - where I will be doing some comedy/magic at 8 pm. Talk to you soon!
1.9.2011: Audition at O'Connor. Call back for a film later on this month. Taco Flavored Eggrolls will be reassembling soon next week after Lupe's one man show entitled: "Porque No Comes." I'm very excited about this show. Also saw friends in "Sinterklass," a production here at CIC. Funny stuff!
Booked to the the United Center / Bulls gig on Thursday, Jan 20th. Booked to do stand up / magic at the Tilted Kilt in Elgin, IL through Mammoth Comedy. Very excited for this one. December was very busy, thank you Kerry at Murasaki and Barb at PUSA for a busy, magic filled New Year's Eve. This month is already shaping up to be busy, productive, and creative.
12.23.2010: Had another audition at O'Connor for Blackberry. December has been very busy with film auditions and commercials. Also performed for the adorable Erin and Eric and all their friends. Happy birthday kids! It was a great opportunity to teach interested kids who may one day be amazing magicians / comedians. That's always my hope anyway. Another great note I forgot to mention. Taco Flavored Eggrolls had a HUGE turn out at the "Boobie Trap" the official fundraiser for Eliza. We had encouragement and love FILL that room. We officially set THE record for Laugh Out Loud Theater. We had that place roaring. It was so gratifying to do something nice for Eliza and her family. We wish her the best. All of the funds went straight to her and her kids, I think we all made a difference that night. On a personal note, I did my very first comedy set without uttering a curse word which was great fun. I think the crowd enjoyed it. In the upcoming month Taco Flavored Eggrolls has huge events coming up that I can't talk about just yet. I hope to have time to do more stand up around IL, my material has to get out there!
12.12.2010: Thank you Jeff! I worked very hard on that set to deliver the best I could for your soccer team. I saw smiles out there on kids and adults alike! Today is going to be busy, chock-ful of songwriting, and Taco Flavored Eggrolls/Comedy rehearsal. Hopefully I can relax after that.
12.11.2010: Attended the Contagion wrap party last night at Rockit. Talked to some friends, ate delicious food, and watched the rough draft of the film on nearly 20 screens! Look for all the great Chicago talent in this film coming out next year. Tonight, I'll be performing an hour long set for the Korean Soccer team in Niles. Bring it on!
11.25.2010: Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Journal: 54, a book on my exploration of advanced sleight of hand with cards has been completed. It needs to go through much editing, then the first edition will be available. Thank you to those who supported me through this. Janet, you have suffered through hours of brainstorming and mindless demonstrations. I've been wanting to write this book for 1 year. More essays and books on the way as soon as this is finished. More exciting news is coming up regarding music. Stay tuned.
11.18.2010: Taco Flavored Eggrolls rehearsals are going well for the benefit. Just booked two more magic events. December is looking busy. More acting class today analyzing a play. Then going to support my brothers in Parts Per Million at the Dark Room tonight!
11.14.2010: What's coming up? Taco Flavored Eggrolls- Booby Trap! A fundraiser for breast cancer. More exciting TFE shows are in the works. New magic/stand up material and music is on the way as well.
11.13.2010: Completed filming for 'Contagion.' Crew was very helpful, and the director was amazing. Working with Kate Winslet- it can't get better than that! Sick as a dog- but I got through it. Thank you to the on set nurse, and the make up artists who covered up my red/chapped nose and mouth. This week was especially tough with classes/interviews/auditions - its no wonder I got sick.
11.4.2010: Magic for the Bulls/Knicks game went well! Watched double feature by Glass City Films at the Portage Theater afterwards. This upcoming week is going to separate the men from the boys. Bring it on!
10.24-26.2010: Filmed for Mental Notion Society & TV Pilot. Preparing for Oops! Recording Event, and Steak & Shake Commercial began airing today. Shot commercial with talented actress Kirsten Chan.
